Think Tanks & the Far-Right: The Mises Institute

Founded in 1982 by Llewellyn Rockwell Jr, the Ludwig von Mises Institute “ exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian school of economics, and individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard”.

 It is one of several international “Policy Institutes” which promote narratives quite popular among far right activists. According to the Mises Institute, society should be based on elitism. Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology, as it is fundamentally aristocratic. Throughout history, all aristocratic and militaristic elitism have implied contempt for the weak. Moreover, in many of their articles, Rationalism is seen as a malaise of the modern world.

 An example of their “work” is the article titled Are Police Departments Really Hiring White Supremacists? ; here the writer argues that ”White supremacist infiltration of police forces is one of the latest national (USA) hysterias”; an assertion that frankly does not need comments…..
